Other Canon Background

When the Dead do walk seek water's run,
for this the Dead will always shun.
Swift river's best or broadest lake
to ward the Dead and haven make.
If water fails thee, fire's thy friend,
if neither guards it will be thy end.

Mostly, the series is about a lineage of necromancers. But those who lay the Dead back to rest, rather than those who bring them back.

The series the crossover draws from is the Old Kingdom Trilogy, often called the Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix. There are two different countries, side by side; One of magic (the Old Kingdom), and the other of technology (Ancelstierre). The border is marked by a wall, a physical barrier as well as a magical one. It's purpose: to keep out the Dead and other creatures from the Old Kingdom, through magic has a tendency of leaking over, especially when a North wind blows.

The complexities of the magic system is worth noting, however. While both require will power, free magic is wild, untamed and associated with chaos and disorder while Charter magic is considered "good", requiring certain symbols to be formed in the casting.

Necromancy is considered a form of free magic, and it's tools include a sword and a set of seven bells, but the power lies in the tone, not the bells themselves. They can be used for more than just the binding of the Dead.

Ranna, the Sleeper. Has a sweet gentle tone.
Mosrael, the Waker. Wakes the Dead, at the cost of sending the ringer into Death.
Kibeth, the Walker. Allows the Dead to move, from or to Death. Can also cause wielder to go where they would not. Is rather raucous in tone.
Dyrim, the Speaker. Gives the Dead a voice, but can also silence a voice.
Belgaer, the Thinker. Returns the memories of the Dead, along with independent thought. Also can erase it.
Saraneth, the Binder. Binds the Dead to the wielder's will.
Astarael, the Sorrowful/Weeper. Banishes all who hears it into Death.

(The Abhorsen is able to use both Charter and free magic spells.)

Allen has his natural arms.
Mana and Allen are directly related, though Mana is dead in the line of duty. No attempts at bringing him back are made, no curse. He thinks about it, Cross sets him straight. (Read: terrorizes for his own good)
Cross is a bound free magic servant in the shape of a red cat. While he has a human form, Allen's never seen it. A previous Abhorsen forbade it after an incident which is never talked about.
Allen's not a cardshark, the way he grew up was more constructive for sneaking around.
He's got a rather peculiar hobby of making paperwings (think WW1 era planes)
Despite being fairly pale, he doesn't burn.
Speed demon

10 Things Meme (Head Canon)
1. Has an aversion to red haired cats. Especially if they have green eyes.
2. Is left handed.
3. Extreme dislike of formal wear. His chainmail is a security blanket, he nearly always has it on.
4. His white hair is due to him overusing magic, a long time ago. (Same incident where Mana died)
5. Besides the sword, bells and magic, has two other knives. Where? That's for other people to find out. Often leaves his bow behind.
6. Loves flying.
7. Wears a small ruby ring on his right hand, and it's not for decoration.
8. Likes to camp out, thereby avoiding Cross and the servent-sendings at the house. Can hunt and cook.
9. Is an adept rider. The stables have to be around somewhere.
10. Won't touch food once it's been on the floor.

And Again
1. Full name — Allen Korbin Walker.
2. Won't ever play cards, on account of being gambled away once. Or twice.
3. Will never be convinced that ducks, no matter what type can be vicious.
4. Likes standing in the rain.
5. Vampires give him headaches when he stays near them too long. Sorry about that.
6. Is Switzerland when it comes to the Noah-Exorcist conflict. It's the Akuma that sets him off.
7. Really should look into finding a way to fix his knife, or get a new one.
8. Once fell asleep on a cliff face, and on a horse, and... he just tends to avoid actually sleeping in a bed.
9. He only knows how to make a Charterskin for a bat. And the after effects are a sensitivity to noise, and insects become much too interesting.
10. He has an inner pyromaniac.
